To SAF Members,
At this time last year, it was decided to cancel our long awaited Aikido Festival due to a growing public health crisis. We now know that crisis was in fact the beginnings of a global pandemic that still affects us all today.
At the time we were reluctant to cancel, as many international members had travelled to Osaka to participate and domestic members had worked hard to prepare for the event. Looking back, I am grateful that we made that decision, and am also glad our international friends made it home safely before borders closed.
It’s still unknown when aikido practice can resume as normal for all of our members, and if we’ll be able to welcome international guests this year. I’d like to express our admiration for our overseas members, who have continued aikido practice over this past year within their homes and in public parks when permissible.
It has been a difficult year, but we can only look to the future and continue to move forward. I hope to see all of you here in Osaka for the 2023 World Competition.

海外指導者各位
昨年のこの時期、徐々に拡大しつつあった世界的なウィルス感染拡大の状況を受け、我々は皆さんが楽しみにされていた合気道フェスティバルを中止とする判断をせざるを得ませんでした。
そしてこの状況は今も我々にパンデミックとして危機をもたらしております。その時は苦渋の決断でしたが、海外の皆様が日本で足止めされることなく、またそれぞれのご郷里でご無事におられますことに今は安堵を覚えております。
世界中のメンバーがいつ元通りのような稽古ができるようになるか、未だ先の見えない状況ではありますが、それぞれのご自宅、または公園などにおいてできる限りの活動をされている皆さまには心より敬意を表したいと思います。
困難な時期は続いておりますが、未来を見据え、前を向いて進んで参りましょう。
2023年にWSAF世界大会を大阪で開催の予定です。皆さんとお会い出来ますことを心から楽しみにしております。
